Dinner service

Comprising 12 plates and 3 cake stands.

1874

Hand-painted bone china with gilding

Compotes: 9 1/4 in. Dm x 2 1/4 in. H

Dinner plates: 9 1/8 in. Dm x 3/4 in. H

The 1874 production of these Minton dinner plates corresponds with the beginnings of the factory’s Aesthetic Movement china. Highly naturalistic, hand-painted butterflies are accented by delicate botanicals and finely gilded borders. The mint green ground evokes Chinese celadons, an appropriate reference for the Aesthetic style which often took inspiration from Asian art.
