This Wedgwood lustreware vase is a unique application of Daisy Makeig-Jones’s ‘Butterfly’ pattern. The pattern, identified on the bottom of the vase as Z4832, was one of the first ten lustreware designs issued by Wedgwood between 1914 and 1915. Its introduction corresponded with Daisy becoming a lead designer at the company in 1914. The mother-of-pearl lustre exterior shows delicately gilded butterflies on a polychromed background, with an interesting magenta wave pattern at the base. The interior of the vase is a brilliant orange, Daisy’s favorite color, with additional gilded butterflies and an Oriental landscape border.
