Though originating in Staffordshire, England in the late 18th century, mochawares were also produced in America and France. This beautiful French mochaware coffee pot was made by the Creil manufactory circa 1810 and features a dark brown mocha dendrite design on a light peach body. Mochaware pottery’s dendrite design came to Europe through the moss agate trade. Moss agate stones, which sport a similar tree-like design, were exported to England and France through the port of al Makha, translated in English to “Mocha.”
