Memphis Milano formed in the 1980s as a response to the rather formulaic design principles of the Mid-Century Modern style. The group’s over-the-top, maximalistic designs were the epitome of kitsch, yet the public responded enthusiastically to this new style that in many ways became the aesthetic of the 80s. Matteo Thun’s ‘Great Lakes’ hors d’oeurvre set shows a playful take on tableware. The set hinges on functional, however it is certainly more of a decorative statement rather than a useful cocktail hour serving set.
