Daisy Makeig-Jones (1881-1945, English) for Josiah Wedgwood & Sons

Bone china with lustre glaze

8 7/8 in. Dm x 3 1/4 in. H (22.4 cm Dm x 8.9 cm H)

This butterfly lustre bowl is a gorgeous example of Daisy Makeig-Jones’s unique artistry. The Butterfly pattern, Z4832, was one of the first ten lustreware designs issued by Wedgwood between 1914 and 1915. Its introduction corresponded with Daisy becoming a lead designer at the company in 1914. The interior of the bowl is brilliant, with Daisy’s favorite deep orange color and a mesmerizing stylized floral motif. The base has the printed Portland Vase mark in underglaze black highlighted with gilding.
