Daisy Makeig-Jones’s lustreware provided respite from the horrors of World War I and brought new life to a tired Wedgwood Factory. Makeig-Jones’s designs reached the height of popularity during the 1920s; her designs fit well within the intrepid and lively spirit of that decade. Decorated with vibrant hummingbirds in flight, this blue lustreware vase is a gorgeous example of Daisy Makeig-Jones’s unique artistry. The Flying Humming Birds pattern debuted with the popular color combination of deep blue and orange in 1920. A border of stylized birds encircles the interior rim, the Flying Geese pattern borders the exterior rim and base. The vase’s gilding is in exceptional original condition. The base has the printed Portland Vase mark and hand-painted pattern number Z5294.
