Most majolica pottery is decorated: adorned with Renaissance-inspired designs, heavily ornamented in the Victorian taste, or covered in Japanese motifs. This Wedgwood majolica pitcher and tumbler makes a bold and surprisingly modern visual impact with its clean lines and palette of earth brown glazes with hints of cobalt. The set’s simplicity celebrates the technical innovation of majolica glazes. Developed in England in the mid-19th century, the glazes were revolutionary for their vast palette of bright, translucent colors, all of which could be fired at the same time.
