Like many English designers before her, Wedgwood designer Daisy Makeig-Jones was drawn to the arts and design of China and Japan, and particularly to the countries’ mythology and mystic symbolism. This bowl’s lively orange lustre exterior displays motifs from the Hundred Antiques, a collection of objects with symbolic meaning in Chinese culture. The interior shows pseudo-Chinese characters surrounding a scarab beetle on a unique pinkish mottled lustre.
